Anyone know what’s up with this abandoned structure off of Powers Island trail? Rusting kitchen appliances / metal nearby.

Atlanta's Underground Streets (most walled off or separate from Underground ATL)

  • They need to keep those warehouses. They are really interesting and part of the rail history of the city. I don't want to see this demolished and have another 5 stories of sticks over 1 story of concrete with a giant parking deck and a bunch of gentrifiers with way too expensive tastes and too many noise complaints. Less is more with this site.

  • Going crazy with renderings is not the same as having a viable plan. Use that left/right slider on the last picture and see how the proposed park is lower than the interstate. You can draw all you want, it's not going to magically turn an interstate that's at/above grade into an interstate that's 50 feet below grade unless you're cutting into the earth or tunnelling. In addition, you can't plant canopy trees onto a cap, a cap can't support the weight or the root network.

  • Atlanta isn't laid out for density in a lot of places close to the city center. I'm not saying Downtown/Midtown/Cobb Parkway/Buford Highway etc., shouldn't be dense, but there is a forest canopy here outside of those (and other) corridors. Take that density and put it in the appropriate corridors, and connect the corridors via rail. We don't need to be mowing down any more forest.

  • I would argue the “intelligence” part being more questionable..

  • I guess my point is that people are the intelligence. The automated part is how we're accessing it.

  • Am I understanding this right:

  • Yes that's what I was getting at

  • I remember seeing that as a kid. I thought it was an old house or something.

  • My grandfather is no longer here, but he used to be a plumber (like big construction jobs - worked on the original six flags and oil pipelines in Alaska) and he told me a story once about how he was redoing some pipe work in a building downtown. The basement he was working in was the old storefront, still had windows and a door, and he said you could shine a flashlight out into the walled off underground street. Ever since he told me this I've always been fascinated with our downtown, I wish there was a way to explore these old walled off streets and basements. Really wish he was still around, I didn't appreciate Atlanta history as much as a child.

  • That's so cool!!

  • lower wall street only runs to the AJC bldg (forsyth st). that map suggests it goes several blocks further than it does. if you are heading northwest you can cross over the railroad tracks (in the opposite direction from what the map implies) and connect all the way to philipps arena but that is thru a parking lot; not a road.

  • If you cut right and then left behind the AJC building, it continues but I don't know if it's still Wall Street there
